Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, began operations in 2003, and carried more than seven million passengers in 2010. From its hub at Abu Dhabi International Airport, Etihad serves 82 cities in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia and North America, with a fleet of 63 Airbus and Boeing aircraft. Etihad Regional is the new European brand operated by Swiss-based regional carrier, Darwin Airline, founded in 2003. It serves a range of key secondary markets in Europe and offers longhaul and international destinations across Europe, Australia, Asia, Middle East, Africa and the Americas through its future 33.3 per cent shareholding equity and codeshare partner, Etihad Airways. The own network is stretching from southern Italy to the UK. The airline’s major hub is the Swiss city of Geneva.
Alitalia - Compagnia Aerea Italiana is a fully private company that started its operations on 13 January 2009. The Company’s 2014 summer schedule offers 103 destinations, of which 26 in Italy and 77 for the rest of the world, 186 routes and more than 4,700 weekly flights.
